Writers,

“How do you research an article properly?” is one of the top questions my freelance writing mini course students and coaching clients ask me. 👇

In fact, I just answered this question in the DMs on LinkedIn, in between deadlines. And I’ll pop my answer here for you, too.

For B2B freelance content writing research, I use a collection of:

1. My own experience and subject-matter expertise. This is SO important because it’s irreplaceable. There’s only one me. And I've learned A LOT.

My specialties include: Business strategy, digital marketing, SaaS topics, tech topics, content marketing, SEO, GEO, content operations, team dynamics, leadership, and many more B2B topics.

2. Research pulled from industry reports. For example, by HubSpot, McKinsey & Company, Pew Research Center, and Statista.

3. Thought leadership, insights, and quotes pulled from thought leaders and industry experts. (I find these on LinkedIn or on authoritative blogs.)

*Pro-Tip: Use Moz's or Ahref’s website authority checker to check each reference site's DA/DR score. Try to aim for a 60+ score.)

4. You can also scan through Reddit, customer reviews, sales calls, support tickets, and other audience research. (Check G2, Capterra, social media posts and comments, the data your clients give you, etc!)

PS: Need help with this? Book a 1:1 mentorship, and I'll show how to conduct research and write a full B2B article from top to bottom. We'll do this on-screen together.

K, gotta get back to the grind.
